Board Room, Holiday Inn
“If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to treat everything as if it were a nail.”
This interactive program begins with examining the differences between passive, aggressive and assertive communication styles. Once the differences are clear, we practice using the “formula” for assertive communication in a variety of situations. Finally, we will deal with barriers (a.k.a. “paradigms”) that lead us to choose passive or aggressive communication. Facilitated by Julie M. Blankenship, Human Resource Consultant, Employers Resource Association.

C. Performance Appraisals: Like Going to the Dentist?
Board Room, Holiday Inn
The process of reviewing employee performance often develops into something similar to a visit to the dentist for all parties involved. The goal of this session is to remove the “pain” of the process and turn the performance appraisal into one of your most valuable management tools. We will review five critical steps that will save managers time, reduce the stress all parties feel, and ultimately improve the organization’s performance. Facilitated by Julie Blankenship.

A. Giving Babies the Best Start
Marietta Room, Comfort Inn
Whether you are a parent, grandparent, neighbor, or an early childhood professional, you want to give the babies in your life their very best chance to be all they can be. Come learn from infant care expert, Betty Blaize, certified instructor for the West Ed (California) Program for Infant/Toddler Caregivers, how a baby's brain develops and how you can affect their opportunity to grow in to their fullest potential. Learn what tips you can use to make playing with a baby, an educational experience.

B. COAD VISTA Project Update
River Room, Holiday Inn
Gary Goosman, Project Director, will provide an update on the status of the COAD VISTA Project which includes 23 full-time VISTAs with member agencies and others for one year beginning this summer.

C. Taking Back Control of Your Time
Board Room, Holiday Inn
What would you do if you were given $86,400 to spend every day? The only rule is that all money not spent by the end of the day is forfeit. We are in a way... given 86,400 seconds every day. Any time “wasted” is forfeit. We can’t save our time for the future, nor can we borrow against tomorrow’s allotment.

This session differs from other programs because we start by recognizing that time is a constant and cannot be “managed.” Instead, we need to learn how to manage our growing to-do lists within the time we have available. Topics for discussion include prioritizing our to-do lists, managing interruptions, and achieving results through delegation. Facilitated by Julie Blankenship.

D. State Energy Plan
Grant Room, Holiday Inn
Sherry Hubbard, Chief, Ohio Energy Office, will discuss the state’s plan to use $96 M in federal stimulus funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help governments, non-profits and for-profits with energy efficiency retrofits and renewable energy sources.
